Martin Bell gained UK wide recognition for his Independent view of issues during his time as a Member of Parliament. All he achieved during his term of office validates all Independent Candidates.

Martin Bell explains “It is time for the election of independents, without party baggage but with real world experience, to be a force for honest politics. They will be answerable not to a political party but only to their constituents and their consciences.”

Are you fed up with party politics, with members of each party telling you how bad the others are? Do you really believe what they write in their leaflets when you have seen U-turns on so many major policies or broken promises? – or would you rather have a local person who thinks differently and is determined to get the best for their ward?   This is exactly why you ought to vote for an independent. An Independent would represent YOU on Torfaen Council without being tied in to a political party such as the Conservatives, Labour or Plaid Cymru Party.   Most councillors probably start out with the very best of intentions but soon forget who they represent and simply do what their political party dictates.
Party politics has poisoned public affairs and even the way we think and speak – how many times have you been about to say something and then thought better of it?   An independent councillor has no party loyalties, just loyalty to the voters who elected them.   This means that when a constituency sends an independent MP to Parliament, all of a sudden the importance of that constituency literally skyrockets as that MP can speak out fearlessly for their constituents and not the “party line”. On every topic the independent councillor can listen to the people, then vote accordingly: that’s a huge advantage over councillors who have to think about party loyalty and weigh that against what their constituents want.   A vote for an Independent is definitely not a wasted vote but an opportunity to send an independent thinker into Torfaen Council.   You can make your vote count for so much more – send an independent to represent YOU.
